(SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Avalanche resume a five-game road trip on Tuesday night looking to win in Carolina for the first time in seven years as they take on the Hurricanes at PNC Arena. The Avalanche had won five of six going into Mondays contest in Washington that kicked off this swing, but were bested 2-1. Alex Tanguay had a goal and Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves. Colorado had a three-game winning streak snapped. Im not happy that we lost but Im happy with our effort, said Colorado head coach Patrick Roy. We had some chances there in the third period and just couldnt put them away. Roy is expected to start Calvin Pickard tonight after the rookie was recalled from the minors on Saturday. Pickard has gone 6-6-2 in 14 games (11 starts) this season while filling in at times when Varlamov was out with a nagging groin issue. He has a 2.21 goals against average and .934 save percentage over that time. Pickard faced the Hurricanes in relief of Reto Berra on Nov. 22 and stopped all 17 shots faced as the Avs rallied for a 4-3 win. That gave Pickard the first victory of his career. Zach Redmonds second goal of the game was the winner with 1:35 to play, while Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist. Berra was pulled less than 17 minutes into the game, but Colorado rebounded to beat the Hurricanes for the third time in four meetings. Carolina has won four straight over Colorado as the host, with the Avs not winning in Raleigh since Jan. 12, 2008. Cam Ward gave up four goals on 35 shots faced in the November loss, falling to 3-3-1 in his career versus the Avalanche with a 3.13 GAA and .899 save percentage. Ward yielded four goals on 35 shots on Saturday as well in a 5-4 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues. T.J. Oshie had the lone tally of the tiebreaker to lead the Blues. Oshie, the Blues first shooter, patiently skated through the slot, got Ward to bite on a fake and lifted a shot into the top of the net. Jake Allen made Oshies effort stand as he stopped all three shooters, including a slick glove save on Alexander Semin to end the game. Jeff Skinner and Victor Rask each tallied a goal and an assist, while Eric Staal and Riley Nash also lit the lamp for the Hurricanes.. For the most part, I thought we did a good job, Carolina head coach Bill Peters said. Pleased to go into St. Louis on the road against a team that is playing very well and get a point out of that. Carolina was coming off a 5-2 win over Buffalo, marking the first time the club has scored more than two goals in back-to-back games since Nov. 8-10. That was the tail end of a six-game run for the Canes of netting at least three goals. Cheap Tigers Jerseys .
