The odds are against Metta World Peace making the Los Angeles Lakers opening night roster, but the Lakers have interest in keeping the veteran forward around as an assistant coach if they cant make room for him as an active player, according to league sources.Sources told ESPN.com that World Peaces impact as a mentor to young players last season was a big reason they invited him to training camp again under new coach Luke Walton. This time, though, competition is much stiffer for the Lakers 15th and final roster spot, thanks to the post-Olympics signing of China star Yi Jianlian and the strong play of camp invitee Thomas Robinson.Sources say World Peaces preference, at age 36, is to continue his playing career, even if the Lakers ultimately decide they wont keep him and that forces him to look elsewhere. L.A.s decision must be made by Monday at 5 p.m., when all NBA teams are required to get down to 15 players in advance of the first night of the regular season.Yi, who can operate as a backup center as well as a floor-stretching forward, is regarded as the favorite to win the duel for the Lakers last roster spot, after L.A. signed him to a one-year, $8 million deal to lure the former Milwaukee Bucks lottery pick away from his native China and back to the NBA. But because of the unique way the contract is structured, only $250,000 of that total is guaranteed, with Yi required to earn $6.8 million in what the league deems likely bonuses to collect the full amount.Robinson, another former high lottery pick and a dogged offensive rebounder, has complicated? the decision for the Lakers by playing well this month in exhibition games. The 25-year-old has already played for five NBA teams (Sacramento, Houston, Portland, Philadelphia and Brooklyn) since the Kings selected Robinson with the No. 5 overall pick in 2012.Veteran guard Nick Young has been another October surprise, impressing the Lakers after a rocky 2015-16 season to entice L.A. to keep him for Youngs ability to score.Walton said earlier this week that Young is playing as well as anyone our team, if not the best on our team honestly.Takkarist McKinley Womens Jersey . -- The Magic have their first victory of the new year. Mercedes has opted to start both its drivers on the soft tyres by using that compound in Q2, but the two Red Bulls will start on the higher-grip super-softs from the second row.Combined with the long run down to Turn 1, Ricciardo hopes the tyre advantage off the line will mean he is challenging the Mercedes drivers into the first corner. It should give the estimated grip levels gains, if you do a perfect start it should give you one grid position, he said. If Mercedes do the perfect start and we do the perfect start, it should put me one place closer. Ideally that just puts me in a good position to get a good slipstream, so perhaps when you do 200m, the slipstream that takes over. So it is probably that first 100m, 200m that makes a difference... then it is finding a friend down the straight to help you along [with a slipstream].If we can understand that for tomorrow and get the tyres in a better window then I think anything is possible tomorrow. Nico looks like he struggled for the majority of the daay but I think it will be interesting tomorrow.dddddddddddd If we can get track position with the super-soft at the beginning hopefully that is the case and you guys can write about something cool tomorrow.Red Bull opted for the same strategy in Austin one week ago and Ricciardo was able to use the extra grip of the super-softs to get ahead of Rosberg into Turn 1. Although Mercedes appear to be lining up a one-stop strategy, Ricciardo is confident his teams decision to start on the softest compound and two-stop is the right one.We just need to try and make it work off the start. That is where we should get the gain. Beyond that, we dont feel it [starting on the super-soft] worked too bad for us in Austin. The tyre degradation is pretty similar here, like Austin we dont think we can do 15 laps on a super-soft, so we are in a similar boat.If it is a two-stop then it is giving us a faster tyre to start the race, I dont see it being a bad thing. If the Mercedes are able to go really long on the soft and do a comfortable one stop then maybe their strategy works best but if we all fall into a two stop strategy then it doesnt look too bad. ' ' '
