NEW YORK -- Some run in memory of a lost loved one. Others are motivated by a milestone birthday. Theres a story behind every one of the 50,000-plus runners in Sundays New York City Marathon; here are a few of them.---Rudy will be running.Actor Sean Astin will take part in his first New York City Marathon, although hes run a dozen marathons in other cities. He said the race will be poignant because New York was the birthplace of his mother, actress Patty Duke, who died in March.Im sure Ill experience a whole range of emotions from bittersweet to sad to nostalgic to excited to hopeful, Astin said. And thats all before I get to the starting line. The 45-year-old Astin is known for film roles such as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the title character in Rudy.Playing the sturdy Samwise, Frodo Baggins right-hand hobbit, proved challenging for an actor who was dedicated to fitness.Astin said the character is derided as a stupid fat hobbit by the shadowy Gollum. Every time I would start to exercise the director would pull out the book and point to that sentence, he said.---Foodies know Elizabeth Falkner from TV shows including Top Chef Masters, The Next Iron Chef, Redemption and Chopped All Stars.I love food competition. Thats my other favorite sport, said Falkner, who played soccer until age 38 and then got serious about running but has not run a marathon before.I turned 50 this year and I thought this is a perfect birthday present for me to give myself, this goal of running my first marathon, she said.Falkner is running to raise funds for Team for Kids, the youth services program of the New York Road Runners club, the marathon organizers. She said shes always tried to promote healthy living even when she ran her San Francisco bakery Citizen Cake. Im not the kind of chef whos telling people to always have more bacon and butter in everything, she said.---Four 27-year-old siblings will be the first quadruplets ever to participate in the New York City Marathon.Elite wheelchair athlete Brian Siemann, who suffered a spinal cord injury a few days after birth, has been in more than 25 marathons, but this will be his first with able-bodied sisters Amanda Siemann, Maria Siemann and Jessica Rowe. Its exciting on two fronts, Brian Seimann said. One, I think, to be the first quadruplets to run the New York City Marathon ever is really cool. But then to be doing this together for the first time is really special, that well remember the rest of our lives. The siblings were born in Brooklyn but have scattered to different states. Only one sister, Jessica Rowe, is a marathon novice.Well be checking in with her to make sure that shes OK and shes alive and she hasnt totally given up on this, Maria Siemann said.---Gordon Felt, 53, is running with other family members from United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 2001, as the passengers tried to wrest control of the plane from four hijackers.Felts brother, computer engineer Edward Felt, called 911 from the doomed plane just minutes before it crashed.Gordon Felt said he and the other family members are running to raise funds for the Flight 93 National Memorial. As family members, our training mantra has been they never gave up and neither will we, he said.Felt, who owns a summer camp for learning-challenged children in upstate Remsen, New York, said he was a middle-distance runner in high school and college but has never run a marathon before. Ive done my training and Im ready to go, he said.---Actor Theo Rossi, known for Sons of Anarchy on FX and Luke Cage on Netflix, said he chose to make New York his first marathon because its the capital of the world. The 41-year-old said its special that the race starts on Staten Island, his often-maligned native borough. As a kid growing up on Staten Island, that really was our only identity, that the marathon starts on Staten Island, he said.Rossi has participated in other endurance events including the Hood to Coast, a 199-mile relay in Oregon. His teammates during the race from Mount Hood to the Pacific coast last August included comedian Kevin Hart. Custom Ken Daneyko Jersey . Ken Daneyko Jersey Large . LOUIS -- Alexander Steen scored a power-play goal with 59. TORONTO -- After wrapping up their Division Series sweep of the Texas Rangers on Sunday night, the Toronto Blue Jays were able to kick back Monday, celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving and watch the Cleveland Indians beat Boston, finalizing their AL Championship Series matchup.Back at Rogers Centre for a light workout on Tuesday afternoon, Toronto tabbed right-hander Marco Estrada as its starter for Fridays Game 1 in Cleveland.Manager John Gibbons said Estrada was the logical choice to start the opener after winning elimination games for the Blue Jays in both the ALDS and ALCS in 2015.More recently, Estrada allowed one run and four hits in 8 1/3 innings to beat Texas in Game 1 of the ALDS last Thursday. He pitched two of our biggest games in the playoffs (last year) to keep us alive, Gibbons said, and then he had the big one the other night. Hes one guy, too, that probably needs more than anybody to keep on as close to normal (rest) as possible, not too much time off.Estrada, who did not speak to reporters Tuesday, is 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA in eight career postseason games, including four starts. He made four postseason relief appearances for Milwaukee in 2011.Gibbons said right-hander Aaron Sanchez, who led the AL with a 3.00 ERA this season, will likely make just one start in the ALCS as the Blue Jays continue to limit his career-high workload.Toronto, which lost to Kansas City in six games in last years ALCS, is looking to reach the World Series for the first time since winning back-to-back championships in 1992 and 1993.To get there, theyll have to beat an Indians squad that Gibbons called tremendous, and probably the most balanced team in the American League. Its a very, very good offense, one of the best out there, so thats not easy, Gibbons said. Theyve got a good defensive club. Theyre real athletic and young. Tough ball club to shut down. Theyre hot like us, too.The Blue Jays won three of seven meetings with the Indians in the regular season. Four of those games, including all three in an August series at Cleveland, were decided by one run. Were going to haave a tough task at hand but we feel like we have a team that can do that, Blue Jays slugger and reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson said.dddddddddddd.The Indians are seeking to give title-starved Cleveland its second championship in less than a year after the NBAs Cavaliers ended a 52-year drought dating to a 1964 NFL championship for footballs Browns.Nobody in this clubhouse doubts what were what capable of, left-hander Andrew Miller said after the Indians swept the Red Sox with a 4-3 win Monday night. We saw in our games in Cleveland how much support we have. Its a special place to be. I think we have bigger things ahead of us, but its not going to be any easier.Clevelands payroll ranks among the lower third of big league teams, some $26 million less than Torontos, but thats of little concern to Indians right-hander Josh Tomlin, who allowed two runs and four hits in five innings to beat Boston in Game 3.You can see it takes a special group of people instead of a group of superstars, Tomlin said.Toronto will have four days off between eliminating Texas and playing Game 1 in Cleveland. It means valuable rest for everyone, Gibbons said, but especially for second baseman Devon Travis and left-hander Francisco Liriano.Liriano was removed from the ALDS roster because of concussion sustained in Game 2 after he was struck in the back of the head by a Carlos Gomez line drive measured at 102 mph.Liriano, who has made two relief appearances this postseason, said he felt fine after playing catch and riding an exercise bike Tuesday. The second day after I got hit I felt a little dizzy, Liriano said. After that, everything has felt normal. No headache, no dizziness, nothing.Liriano isnt eligible to return until Game 2 of the ALCS.Travis battled a sore knee for almost a month before he was scratched from Game 2 against Texas. He was available off the bench in Game 3 but did not play.Im feeling much better, Travis said. Ill be ready to go Friday. ' ' '
